Practice Philosophy:

Despite the current trend over the last several years, where dermatologists’ offices look more like high end cosmetic boutiques and where the thrust of the practice is selling cosmetic creams, potions and lotions, Dr. Buchen has bucked the trend by NOT selling any products.  He also has not jumped on the laser bandwagon of the last decade. It is ironic that Dr. Buchen’s focus on general dermatology, is a rare find in the dermatology world today.

About Dr. Buchen:

Dr. Daniel Buchen has been practicing Dermatology for 12 years after completing his Dermatology residency at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 1998. The practice encompasses adult and pediatric general dermatology-diseases of the skin, hair and nails-as well as dermatologic surgery. Dr. Buchen is a board-certified dermatologist and is fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Mohs Surgery.

What distinguishes the practice is his aggressive and practical approach to patients. He uses many newer medications like Remicade®, Humira®, Enbrel®, Stelara®, and Soriatane® that have allowed him to improve and enhance the quality of patients’ lives that suffer with chronic skin diseases like psoriasis.

As of 2011, Dr. Buchen is pleased to have Diana DaSilva, RNP in his practice. A registered nurse practicioner, she follows all patients on isotretinoin through the www.ipledgeprogram.com

He is well-known for his work in skin cancer (Mohs) surgery and has recently published a book, Skin Flaps in Facial Surgery. Reviewers have called the book “outstanding.” Doody Review Services called the book an "excellent presentation on how one talented and creative surgeon approaches very challenging tasks."

He has lectured both nationally and internationally on the various ways to close facial defects created by the removal of skin cancer. Dr. Buchen uses these same techniques to repair torn ear lobes, suture facial lacerations, or to revise scars from previous trauma or skin cancer surgery.

Patients have awarded Dr. Buchen the Patients Choice Award. According to the website, www.vitals.com, this award reflects the difference a particular physician has made in the lives of their patients. The honor is bestowed to physicians who have received near perfect scores as voted by patients.

Dr. Buchen is grateful to the community he serves and, as Chief of Dermatology at Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) in Staten Island, NY, he runs the monthly Dermatology Clinic.  Without any charge to patients, the hospital or insurance companies, he also sees Dermatology inpatients who are admitted to RUMC with more serious dermatologic problems.

Testimonials

Mrs. Louise Mello wrote “Dr. Buchen diagnosed my problem, biopsied and began treatment right away. From that moment on, Dr. Buchen set himself apart from other doctors. This disease is very painful and he showed himself to be very caring…He gave me his home telephone number and told me to call him anytime if I had a question or if I was in pain and, in fact, he called me on a Sunday (his day off) to ask how I was doing…Dr. Buchen is a young man with a wonderful future. He is patient, caring, sensitive and most of all, competent. He should be the example which all the other doctors follow…”

Mrs. Meyers wrote “I had a cancer on the tip of my nose removed by a Mohs surgeon 5 years ago. It came back. Then a plastic surgeon removed it. It came back again. Since my first meeting with you, I have been convinced that you are the one who will get me over this next hill in the road…I have utter confidence in you.”
